Budget Committee Annual Report for 2010-2010:

During 2010-2011 the Budget Committee had two meetings with Tim Burwell, Vice Provost for Resource Management, to discuss budget issues, the growth of EPA administrators, and distance and online education (November 1, 2010 and February 11, 2011). Details of these meetings are described in reports submitted and included in the corresponding Faculty Senate Agendas.

At the request of the Faculty Senate, Mark Strazicich contacted Tim Burwell to obtain information on the recently approved $70 increase in student athletic fees. This increase was due to the recent loss of waiving out-of-state tuition for funded out-of-state student athletes. Following this, Mark Strazicich received additional information from Charlie Cobb, Director of Athletics, about student athletic fees and the possibility to move ASU’s football program from Division I-AA to I-A. Details of these communications are described in reports submitted and included in the corresponding Faculty Senate Agendas.

Suggestions for next year: The Budget Committee recommends that future Budget Committees regularly meet with Tim Burwell at least twice a year to discuss Budget issues. Budget Committee meetings with other administrators can be scheduled as necessary.
