Faculty Senate Goals 2017-2018

Motion FS 17-18/11-03 to accept the 2017-2018 Faculty Senate Goals passed in the Faculty Senate on November 13, 2017.  




2017   - 20XX



1)      The Faculty Senate will preserve shared governance across all areas of the university by building bridges with university administration to provide a faculty voice through active participation in decision-making, particularly in those areas affecting faculty and academics including, but not limited to, the following: strategic planning; allocation of resources; use of facilities; expansion of enrollment; changes in program or course delivery; Distance Education, etc.


2)      The Faculty Senate will advocate on behalf of faculty, staff, and students concerning development and implementation of university policy concerning issues including, but not limited to, the following: academic freedom; freedom of speech; diversity of students and faculty; hate speech; sustainability; tenure and promotion; recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students; and issues of equity and diversity within the faculty, student body, and staff.


3)      The Faculty Senate will continue to provide a forum within the university that will

disseminate information to faculty through representative Senators and collect data to inform and influence policy through continuous revisions to the Faculty Handbook and other such governance documents.


4)      The Faculty Senate will continue to safeguard the morale and welfare of faculty through active advocacy in the areas of equity and diversity; salary and other compensation; recruitment and retention; promotion, review, and tenure; child care and family issues related to the working environment; climate and culture of the university and its departments; and general working conditions across campus.
